Bangor Dispatcher Needs More Petition Signatures

A push to have the public vote on a plan to consolidate emergency dispatch services in Bangor will take a little more work on the part of the petition seekers.Bangor Police Dispatcher Jim Morrill is behind an effort to overturn a city council decision to combine the city’s dispatch with Penobscot County Regional Dispatch. He had to turn in about 2200 signatures to the city earlier this month.City Clerk Patti Dubois say Morrill was about 140 signatures shy of reaching his goal.Morrill can file a notice of intent to collect the additional signatures within the next 10 days.Dubois says if at least 2236 are valid, the city council will have to schedule a vote on the consolidation plan.Councilors approved combining services, saying the city’s basically been double-billed for emergency dispatch by paying both Bangor Police and Penobscot County.
