Maine lawmakers have been on a bus tour learning what makes the state’s economy tick.Friday, the tour stopped at the University of Maine in Orono. The three-day event took the legislators to Verso Paper Mill in Bucksport, an Eastport Tidal Power facility and other points of interest. Both lawmakers and presenters say the tour was beneficial.” Even though you may have been on the tour once before, you haven’t seen it all and so they really give you a broad experience of what the Maine economy looks like on the ground at a personal level in the local areas,” said Representative Bob Duchesne.Hemant Pendse, Director of Forest BioProducts Research Inst. added, “We got to show them what we do in our research lab. How it benefits the students who are here and more importantly how businesses can get it validated. It’s not just test tubes and beakers, so they can have confidence in the data and then they can decide to invest their own money.”The group was scheduled to make a stop in Waterville before returning to Augusta.
