Bangor Group Collects Enough Signatures For A Referendum on Proposed Arena

The group hoping to allow voters to decide on a new Bangor Arena says they’ve collected enough signatures for a referendum on the project.Long time basketball coach Bob Cimbollek is leading the effort. He held a press conference outside city hall Friday. The group believes taxpayers should decide on the new arena, not city councilors. They’ve collected more than twenty five hundred signatures, well over the minimum needed for the referendum.Supporters say they are exercising their constitutional rights.Last month, councilors voted to spend nearly eight hundred thousand dollars to get final site plans for the proposed arena, which is expected to cost about sixty five million dollars.
