Former Cannery Expected to Become Boatyard

A former sardine cannery in Belfast is expected to get a new life now, as a boatyard. A group of marine industry business owners is preparing to buy the Stinson Seafood property. Taylor Allen, the owner of Rockport Marine and a member of the group, says the plan is to turn the area into a service yard, where boats could also be built. We’re told the sale could be complete by the end of the week.It would cut Belfast’s ties with the current owner, which the city sued to clean up the property.Allen says the site is ideal for the boatyard since it’s unusually flat and it has deep water for bigger boats. He says the group hopes to have the “Front Street Shipyard” open for business this summer.
