Former Bank Employee Admits to Stealing Money

A former bank employee who’s admitted to stealing three-quarters of a million dollars from customers is going to prison soon. Christina Torres-York of Warren pleaded guilty in federal court Tuesday to embezzlement and misapplication of money.She worked as a loan officer for the Camden National Bank branch in Waldoboro and authorities say she took about $750,000 over two years, ending in October 2009.Torres-York faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine, along with repayment of the stolen money.But under an agreement with federal prosecutors, she’s allowed to appeal her sentence if it’s longer than 33 months.Torres-York is free on bond and scheduled to be sentenced April 14th.
