Legion Day At The State House

Members of various American Legion Posts throughout Maine got the chance to show lawmakers in Augusta a little bit more about who they are and what they do.Tuesday at the hall of flags in the State House they held legion day.Legion officials say they wanted to teach the new legislatures more about the programs they offer. Many legislators took the time to peruse the different booths and learn about those programs as well as meet some of the members. “My hope is that they will glean that we’re not asking for anything,” said event organizer Donald Simoneau. “We’re here to serve them and that’s what it’s about our service.”One of the things the folks from the legion served up was a table full of refreshments. This is the first year they’ve held this event. No word yet on whether they’ll do it again next year.
