Hofland Trial Resumes in Belfast

A man accused of taking a class of Maine fifth-graders hostage while armed with a handgun is acting as his own attorney. Randall Hofland’s trial started Friday and resumed Monday morning. He faces 41 charges, including kidnapping, for allegedly taking a Stockton Springs class hostage at gunpoint on Oct. 31, 2008. The children were not hurt and the gun was not fired. Hofland was expected to give an opening statement, but chose to wait until the prosecution is done presenting its case. (AP)
