Freedom Salute Ceremony Today for 172 Mountain Infantry 

Governor LePage, Senator Susan Collins and Senator Olympia Snowe will take part in a formal welcome home ceremony Friday afternoon, for members of the 172nd Mountain Infantry unit of the Maine Army National Guard.The 157 men returned home late last year, after serving nine months in Afghanistan.While there, they were stationed along the border with Pakistan.Major General John Libby called it the most difficult mission to date.Friday afternoon’s Freedom Salute ceremony will honor the soldiers as well as their families, employers and community leaders who have supported the troops through their deployment.It starts at 2 p.m. at the Collins Center for the Arts at the University of Maine in Orono.
