Eddington Man Loses Prison Term Appeal

Catherine Pegram

The state’s highest court has upheld the four-year prison sentence for a man from Eddington convicted of assaulting his estranged wife. 34-year-old Ryan Witmer’s lawyer argued before the Maine Supreme Judical Court last November that Witmer’s sentence was too harsh. Witmer was convicted a year earlier of forcing his way into his estranged wife’s home while she was watching a movie with another man.He was also found guilty of violating a protection order. A jury determined Witmer was not guilty of attempted murder, aggravated assault and burglary. His lawyer argued the four-year sentence was based on charges he was cleared of.
