Smart Meter Program to be Re-Evaluated 

Central Maine Power’s Smart Meter installation policy is coming under the microscope.The Public Utilities Commission voted Tuesday to open an investigation to determine if their no opt-out option is reasonable, or unjustly discriminatory.The commission will examine the possibility of local opt-outs to the program and what alternatives are available.Smart Meters were approved by the PUC last year. CMP says the system is designed to improve customer service, enhance storm restoration efforts, reduce utility costs and ratepayer costs.
