LePage is Maine’s New Governor: Oath and Speech Pt. 1

Maine has a new governor. Paul Richard LePage on Wednesday took the oath of office in an inauguration ceremony at the Augusta Civic Center. The first Republican governor in 16 years succeeds Democrat John Baldacci. In a preinaugural tradition, a delegation of state senators and representatives walked from the State House to the Blaine House to summon LePage to Wednesday’s festivities. His family joined him for the oath. The inauguration of the 62-year-old State House outsider who was widely considered an unlikely winner early in last year’s gubernatorial race completes the story of political transformation and personal triumph. Republican House Speaker Bob Nutting says LePage’s inauguration “heralds in a new day for the people of Maine.” (AP)The rest of the speech can be seen in the story: “LePage is Maine’s New Governor: Speech Pt. 2”
