A former sardine cannery in Belfast that’s sat idle for years could be gearing up again for a brighter future. City manager Joe Slocum says the property could be sold soon to a new developer. He tells us he’s hoping to hear something positive within the next 30 days and that could mean a contract to buy the vacant buildings. Slocum says the city’s been working with a number of developers since July, two of which have expressed a lot of interest in the property. Slocum says he’s not willing to go into any specifics on a possible deal. The city filed two lawsuits last year in an effort to get the current owner to clean up the property and tear down part of it.Slocum says the demolition is on hold to help the current developer find a new buyer.
