The Augusta Police Department is getting a new chief – a man who’s been on the force for more than 20 years. Major Robert Gregoire has been tapped to the fill the position left open when Wayne McCamish retired last month. The city manager tells us Gregoire’s appointment still has to be confirmed by the city council, but is expected to happen Thursday night. Gregoire’s been with the department for 22 years. He was named the deputy chief, which is second in command, in 2001.
