Local Companies Help Families in Need

Local companies are trying to collect twelve thousand pounds of food for pantries in the area.Today, they kicked off their second annual ‘Pantry Project’ at the Hollywood Slots Hotel in Bangor. The program was started by United Way of Eastern Maine. The organization’s President, John Kuropchak, says its goal is to support families in Eastern Maine who may need some extra help this year.”What we’ve seen is more and more people, because of the economy, relying on food pantries to get the food they need to supplement their shrinking incomes, and we’ve seen a real spike in the amount of people utilizing the pantries. And as a result there is a real need this time of the year, typically in January, February, March and April, so that’s why we came up with the idea.”All the food will be delivered to Good Shepherd Food Bank for distribution to pantries throughout five counties.
