Lettuce Ladies Brave the Cold for Veganism, Animal Rights 

A couple of women created quite the scene in downtown Bangor Tuesday.Wearing lettuce bikinis, PETA’s lettuce ladies were in town promoting veganism.The women held signs that read “Turning a New Leaf: Go Vegan” and passed out soy hot cocoa to passersby.They are a part of the national organization, PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.They also passed out vegetarian starter kits to help people offset holiday weight gain and strive for better health in 2011.”This is a great way to get people’s attention in a fun way but then talk to these people about these very serious issues and talk about how people can improve their health, prevent cruelty to animals and help their environment by going Vegan,” said Ashley Byrne with PETA.For more information on PETA, you can visit their website at
