Company Puts a Modern Spin on Ballet

Local ballet troupe is getting ready to take to the stage for an evening of entertainment. Members of the Bangor Ballet spent the day rehearsing for their yearly “evening at the arts” performance. The dancers will premiere a new ballet created by artistic director, Ivy Forrest. It’s called “New York Concerto” and offers a glimpse of street life in the city, in the 1920’s.The company says it puts a more modern spin on a classic style of dance. “It’s classical ballet, and yet it’s very modern, very edgy. And I think it’s going to surprise people of how modern and edgy ballet really is and pertinent to today’s world as well and not just story book ballets.”The dancers will perform New York Concerto as a benefit for the Bangor Ballet on Saturday, January 15th. The event starts at 5 o’clock at Husson University’s Gracie Theatre in Bangor. They’ll also take to the stage at the University of Maine at Machias next Saturday, January 8th at 7 o’clock and Sunday, January 16th at 3 o’clock at Ellsworth High School.
