Start of Maine’s Winter Fishing Season

Saturday marks the start of Maine’s winter fishing season. The Maine Warden Service is reminding anglers wanting to ice fish to check the ice conditions before venturing out on their favorite lake or pond. They say with temperatures in the upper thirties and lower forties in the next few days ice is not ideal in many locations. For the first time, the state is also allowing fishermen to cast their rods in open waters of lakes, ponds and streams during the winter months.State regulations were changed last spring to allow for open-water fishing during the winter.
