Topsfield Woman Sentenced To Jail For Animal Abuse

A Topsfield woman has been sentenced to jail time four years after 20 dogs and a cat were seized from her kennel.Hancock County assistant District Attorney Paul Cavanaugh says 71-year-old Margo Malpher was sentenced to six months in jail with all but 10-days suspended and ordered to pay $13,000 in restitution.Authorities seized the animals from the Malpher’s home in September of 2006.They claim they had been kept in unlivable conditions and many of them were covered in feces and were wet with urine.Cavanaugh says Malpher is appealing the sentence.
