Homeless Advocacy Group Wants To End Elderly Homelessness

”No elders in shelters” that’s the message a homeless advocacy group in Augusta is trying to get across this holiday season. The group, Homeless Voices for Justice, hosted its second holiday wish press conference outside the Maine State House on Thursday. The group says 172 elders slept in Maine shelters this year. Their goal is to find homes for the homeless but say they want to focus their attention on the elderly, a group they say is often ignored.Based on data the group has collected, they say elders have stayed as long as 336 days in a shelter.
