Coast Guard Searching for Maine Fisherman – Update

After nearly 24 hours the United States Coast Guard suspended their search for 38 year old David Mahonen the lobster fisherman from South Thomaston who fell overboard Sunday. The search covered nearly 400 square miles south of Rockland and Matinicus Island after Mahonen was reported overboard from the 77 foot lobster boat Timothy Michael. The Coast Guard used helicopters and a fixed wing Falcon aircraft, along with boats in the search of the 47 degree water, but the 30-to-40 knot winds and 11-to-18 foot seas, along with rain, fog and low visibility made it even more difficult. After meeting with the family and the next of kin the search was called off at 1:15 Monday afternoon.
