Talks Resume Between Union Nurses & EMMC

The ongoing negotiations between unionized nursed and officials from Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor have been back on today.A federal mediator and a representative from Governor Baldacci’s office joined the two sides at the bargaining table. The president of the nurses union at EMMC, Judy Brown, says talks are slowly progressing, but no real progress has been made.Officials from EMMC say they’ve modified their position on some of the outstanding issues, but several other issues remain unsolved. The nurses went on a one-day strike last month that followed a two-day lockout. The major sticking point in the negotiations is staffing levels at the hospital that union nurses say are unsafe. No date has been set for talks to resume.
