BEP to Decide on Extension for Calais LNG Project 

The entire Board of Environmental Protection will decide whether to extend the project application deadline for a company that wants to build a $1 billion liquefied natural gas terminal in Calais. Calais LNG is asking the state permission to turn in it’s application by January 15th. It’s at least the fifth time the company has requested an extension.Board Chair Susan Lessard had decided to turn the issue over to the full board to weigh in on at its next meeting, which is December 16th.Calais LNG wants to develop a 330-acre site south of Calais.In the fall, the company was granted more time for its application after a major investor dropped out of the project.
