Folks lined Bennoch Road in Stillwater Saturday to see a piece of history be taken down. The Stillwater chimney was demolished. It’s the chimney for the old Cassidy Sawmill and was built in 1870.The property owners are going to be building a home next to the area and needed the chimney removed for safety reasons. They say they were sad to see it go, but it had gotten to a point where it couldn’t be salvaged.” We didn’t really want to take it down. But it was such a safety hazard. Bricks were falling down and people like to go down and look at the chimney and walk around it. Afraid someone would be injured.”The property owners will be recycling the bricks though. They are going to be used in the new house.
