Kids all over eastern and mid-coast Maine will have the chance to board a train headed for Santa’s workshop starting tonight. The Kiwanis Club of Rockland and the Maine Eastern Railroad are offering the 7th annual “Jingle Bells Express” December 3rd & 4th.Three different trains will leave from Rockland’s train depot. The trains, fully decorated for the holidays, will make their way to Thomaston.Once they arrive passengers will be treated to a performance by a group of elves before Santa Claus himself will board the train and spend some time with the kids. When the train returns to Rockland the passengers will be treated to hot chocolate and cookies. Folks at the Kiwanis Club say the Jingle Bells Express is quite an undertaking but it’s all worth it in the end. Gordon Page works for the railroad and is also a Kiwanis Club member. “It’s a big event and when you consider the fact that we’re putting 1200 people, infants all the way up to great grandparents on this train, it’s wonderful. It’s a real warm and fuzzy event. It’s magical. It really is a lot of fun,” he says.Tickets are still available but organizers say they’re going fast. To get yours you can call the train depot at 596-6725.The cost is $21 for all ages and infants two years old and under ride free.
