Crews from at least seven towns were battling an apartment fire in Madison Tuesday morning. Crews were called to Western Avenue around 2:45 am. Madison fire chief Roger Lightbody says the building is abandoned. Lightbody says the fire was a tough one to get a handle on. “It was a hard fire. There was a heavy fire load. We attacked it inside. Crews went in tried to knock it down best we could and the fire overtook us so we backed all the crews out and hit it from the outside. So we were actually a good two hours getting the fire under control.” Fire Marshal investigators have been called to determine a cause of the fire.
