Holiday Weekend Traffic; Police Presence 

Police departments are stepping up patrols this holiday season, while traffic numbers are looking up.Extra officers will focus on drivers without seatbelts and drunk drivers.During the 2008 Thanksgiving holiday travel season, more than one thousand people were killed in motor vehicle crashes nationwide.Of those, more than 50% were unrestrained at the time of the crash.Highway authorities say this year’s holiday traffic numbers are higher than last year’s.An estimated 59,000 vehicles passed the York toll plaza on Wednesday, historically the busiest travel day of Thanksgiving weekend.Officials say that Sunday is projected the be the second busiest day, when 55,000 vehicles are expected to make the return trip.
