Bangor Police Department Warns Folks About Online Messages

If you’re headed home for the holidays this weekend, the Bangor Police Department has a warning.Be careful what you post online.Sgt. Paul Edwards with the Bangor Police Department says during the holidays people get excited about their plans to see their friends and families.Often times, they’ll post where they are going onto social networking websites such as Facebook, Twitter and Myspace. But what they don’t realize is posting such information makes them a target for crooks.”People who are not your friend could see through that other friend that you posted on someone’s wall, say for instance you can see that post a lit of times. So eventhough I’m not friends with someone I can still see where they have talked and somebody else can read that post and say ah gee, why go break into their house.”Edwards says the best way to tell people where you are going is to send them messages directly through the websites, email and by telephone that way it’s not open to the general public.
