Unionized Nurses Strike at EMMC

Monday is the third consecutive day replacement nurses have been on the job at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. The nurses gave their notice of a pending strike more than ten days ago.The administration at EMMC decided to lock the nurses out and bring in replacement nurses to cover these three days worth of shifts. The lockout lasted through the weekend and at 5:30 Monday morning the picket line formed as the nurses went on strike.Despite the snow and the cold the nurses were holding signs and walking up and down State Street on the sidewalk next to the hospital. The administration has a press conference scheduled for 1 o’clock Monday afternoon. We’ll be there and will have the latest information for you when it becomes available.
