A local radio personality is camping out in the Hannaford parking lot in Brewer for a good cause.Z-107.3 is collecting turkeys for Manna Ministries as part of the “Free the Z” turkey drive.Tuesday morning’s rain didn’t stop people from helping the community. Folks poured into the Hannaford parking lot in Brewer with turkeys.”We had a bus full of school kids who gave us 40 total. They walked right out in the rain and had their picture taken right by the vehicle here. They were pretty excited, we were pretty excited to see them,” said Z107.3 radiohost “Kid.”Kid arrived at 6 in the morning. This is the Z’s tenth year hosting the event, Kid’s fifth. All the turkeys collected will go to Manna Ministries.Dennis McGrath and his fifth grade class at the State Street School in Brewer donated eight turkeys to the drive.”We’re really big into the community, caring here in the Brewer school system, so we wanted to do something to give back to the community,” he said.Kid says he’s amazed by all of the support.”It’s amazing. In fact, there are people who donated services, they fed us breakfast, some people donated boxes of t-shirts that a group made for people as a little something to give back.”Kid will sleep in this trailer overnight and will stay outside Hannaford until the goal of 2010 turkeys is met. Last year, Free the Z collected more than 28 hundred turkeys for Manna Ministries.”With the economy every year is different but I have no doubt that we’ll get to out goal or maybe exceed it.”You still have a chance to donate to Free the Z, you can Tuesday night and Wednesday. And just a reminder, the TV 5 Turkey Telethon is on Friday, November 19th.
