Walk to Fight Cancer

”It’s like you were hit by a mack truck. It’s just nothing you can really prepare for.”A month ago, a doctor’s appointment turned into a nightmare for Melissa Lord. It’s when she learned her seven year old daughter, Kylie, had leukemia. “In the month that we’ve gone through this it’s been a really tough road, and she’s got two and a half years left to go through it.”When local residents heard the news, they came together to walk in support of the family. Family friend, Raylene Connor, helped organize the event.”I know the little girl’s mother, I know most of her immediate family, so we wanted to do something to help so we said let’s bring the community together.”Family, friends and Searsport residents hope to raise enough money to help offset Kylie’s medical expenses.”I want them to be able to take care of her and not worry about all the financial grief that happens,” said Prospect resident, Diana Patterson.”We’re taking donations, we’re doing the sponsors, I’ve made sponsor sheets, so that people can get pledges.”Kylie has a long road ahead of her, but it’s clear she won’t be walking it alone. If you would like to make a donation to Kylie and her family, please mail your support to:Melissa Lord7 Merithew RoadSearsport, ME 04974
