EMMC Collects Universal Waste to Help Environment

Employees at Eastern Maine Medical Center were able to get rid of some of their old office materials and help our environment at the same time.On Friday, the EMMC collected old televisions, monitors, vcr’s and dvd players to be recycled for free during its fall universal waste day.Earlier this month, EMMC earned a prestigious award from the US Environmental Protection Agency.Ray Johnson, the Environmental Health and Safety officer says the event shows the commitment EMMC has when it comes to helping the environment.”Instead of putting them into a landfill, all your metals and what not melt down, they get into the water system…here they take all this, they separate materials, they go and reuse them for different products.”In April, EMMC collected more than nine tons of universal waste during a similar collection.
