The call is out for ATV riders and bicyclists for a nice ride for a nice reason this weekend in Hancock county.Friend and Friend in Ellsworth is sponsoring the 1st annual charity ride to raise money for the new Downeast Sunrise Trail maintenance fund on Sunday.ATVers and bicyclists will leave from two separate locations. One group leaves from Washington Junction in Ellsworth. The other from the parking lot across from Helen’s restaurant in Machias.More than 200 ATV riders and bicyclists have already registered for the ride. The people at Friend and Friend say now that the 85-mile long trail is finally open it’s important to keep it maintained. “The trail maintenance itself is important on the safety side,” says Friend & Friend managing Partner Kyle Hildebrand. “Just keeping the trail clean, clean from debris. But also since it is a multi use trail there’s runners, bikers, horses, and soon snowmobiles.”>To take part in Sunday’s ride it’s $10.00 per ATV rider and $5.00 per passenger and $10.00 per bicyclist. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. You can do that at Friend and Friend on State Street in Ellsworth or call them at 667-4688. You can also register Sunday morning before the ride, beginning at 8:30 in both locations.
