Bangor Football Win Over Lewiston to Clinch State Title Birth 

Eastern Maine championship weekend in high school football. A chance to go to Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland next Saturday to play for the gold ball is on the line. Only one game tonight, and it was a good one. The Class A Final between Bangor and Lewiston.Lewiston led through most of this game. They scored on their first offesive play and they moved the ball well all night. This is Jeff Turcottte, one of their three excellent running backs. The Blue Devils led until the 3rd quarter.Bangor quarterback Joe Seccareccia kept it from the 10 yard line and managed to get just inside the pylon. After a two point conversion, Bangor finally led 20-19.To the 4th quarter, Lewiston again. This time it was Joe McKinnon and Bangor trailed again 25-20.Bangor drove the length of the field and on this 4th and long play with four minutes to go. Seccareccia scrambles, gets the first down but fumbles on the one yard line. Lewiston recovers. Heartbreak for Seccarecia. Could the season be slipping away?The Blue Devils move it to the ten. Fourth and inches, Lewiston goes for it deep inside their own end. They don’t get it. John Kelly with the huge hit to stop the Blue Devils.Bangor with great field position. Second and goal from the Lewiston two. Seccareccia hands off to Josiah Hartley. Into the endzone for the third time. Bangor win a terrific one from Cameron Stadium. 28-25 the final. Bangor on to the state title game for the second year in a row. They’ll face the winner of tomorrow’s Western Maine final between Deering and Cheverus.
