UMaine To Test Emergency System on Wednesday

On Wednesday, the University of Maine will test its emergency communications system. So if you are near the campus, be prepared for some loud noise.University Officials say two outdoor sirens will go off for several minutes after 11 am.The system allows UMaine to quickly notify the community during emergency situations by using several different resources such as email and text messages.University Spokesperson Joe Carr says this is an opportunity to remind the community about this important resource.”We want people in our community, students, people who work here, people are visiting people who live near the campus to remember that something like this is in place and will be used when necessary,” he said.Carr says the test is done once every year. The Emergency Communications System was created in 2007.
