The body of a Marine from Maine killed in Afghanistan is back home. 25-year-old First Lieutenant James Zimmerman of Smyrna died in combat Tuesday. He was stationed out of Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.Zimmerman’s body was flown to Bangor today then brought to Houlton by motorcade. Town officials in Smyrna encouraged the public to come out and join in the procession, starting in Island Falls off I-95. The motorcade was scheduled to drive along Route 2 through Zimmerman’s hometown, then back on the highway to Houlton. The Smyrna town manager expected thousands of people to turn out and pay their respects to the family. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. on Thursday, Veteran’s Day, at Houlton High School.
