Libby Mitchell to Leave Politics 

Outgoing State Senate President Libby Mitchell is leaving politics.The 70-year-old Mitchell finished third in the race for Governor, well behind Governor-elect Republican Paul Lepage and Independent Eliot Cutler.Mitchell was first elected to Maine’s House of Representatives in 1974. She’s the first woman to ever hold the titles Speaker of the House and Senate President in a State Legislature.Mitchell, who lives in Vassalboro, says she will return to her husband’s law firm where she will put her law degree to use.
