Holden Fire

Crews were called to the Mann Hill Road in Holden Sunday morning just before 4:30.Assistant Fire Chief for Holden, Andrew Emery says when they arrived on scene they found the barn fully engulfed in flames and the fire had started to spread to the home.Emery says there were five occupants inside and a few of them had awoken to the smoke and got everyone else out of the house, along with most of the farm animals. He says there are a few chickens unaccounted for.Emery says they had mutual aid from several towns and about 50 firefighters battling the blaze. He says it took them a couple of hours to get the fire contained and they were faced with some challenges.” The wind was also blowing the fire into the house. So there was wind and there were no hydrants in the area. So extra tankers were called as well as manpower.”Emery says the homeowners were insured and Red Cross has been called in to help them.He says the Fire Marshal’s office is investigating.
