Lobstermen Eligible for Training and Cash Benefits 

It’s been a tough couple of year for lobstermen. Falling prices and rising costs are leaving some wondering how to make ends meet.The U.S. Department of Agriculture wants to help.Lobstermen are now eligible for the Trade Adjustment Assistance for Farmers program.Those who apply can receive training on how improve their profits, as well as up to $12,000 dollars in cash incentives.It’s free.Meetings are planned along the coast to discuss the program and help get fishermen signed up.The deadline to apply is December 23rd.The first is Monday night at the Milbridge town hall from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m..Here’s a list of the other dates and locations:November 8thPortland Yacht Services58 Fore StreetPortland6 p.m. – 8 p.m.November 10thThompson Community CenterUnion6 p.m. – 8 p.m.November 16thRamada InnEllsworth6 p.m. – 8 p.m.November 22ndBelfast Area High School6 p.m. – 8 p.m.November 30thOxford County FSA Office3 p.m. – 5 p.m.November 30thUniversity of Maine at MachiasScience Building Room 1026 p.m. – 8 p.m.Applications can be made through a local USDA Farm Service Agency office.
