The Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender(GLBT)services at the University of Maine is an outlet for students in the community to find support and self confidence. This week they are coming together for their annual, “Coming Out Week,” which promotes tolerance and acceptance among students. “We want to create an environment where you can be who you want to be and it’s also about sexuality and diversity of all kinds,” said senior, Edie Hansen. The week is full of fun events including potluck dinners and bake sales. Tomorrow night, at 6:00 p.m., a candle light vigil will be held on the campus Mall to remember those who took their own lives as a result of bullying.Student Rebecca Hickman is working hard for the cause, and hopes students will join her at the ceremony. “We’re having the vigil to show support for those affected by bullying in school and for those who lost their lives to bullying.”Even though the week will eventually come to a close, community members hope its message is remembered.
