Time Warner Cable has repaired an equipment problem that forced some TV5 Morning News viewers to watch an image of a political ad for more than an hour-and-a-half. A company spokesman says equipment failure caused the signal from WABI’s standard definition channel to lock up on the screen around 5:40 a.m. TuesdayA commercial endorsing Independent candidate for Governor Shawn Moody was on the air at that time. Viewers could hear the morning news broadcast, but video from that ad stayed frozen until Time Warner fixed the problem around 7:30 a.m. Andrew Russell says crews made the repairs as quickly as they could. “We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. We’re replacing the equipment to ensure something like this doesn’t happen again. It was an equipment failure and, again, the signal freeze had nothing to do with the content. It just happened to be what was on the screen when it happened.”WABI’s high-definition channel on Time Warner was not affected by the problem.
