Red Cross Celebrates One Year Anniversary of Plasma Donations 

The American Red Cross is celebrating one year of plasma donations.On Tuesday, the Red Cross commemorated the milestone at its office on Hammond Street in Bangor.Ellen Russell, Director of blood services for American Red Cross – New England region, says the organization has seen a great response in the area.Platelet and plasma donations are special types of donations that are used to help people with life threatening medical conditions.Platelets are used within five days from when they’re collected.”It’s a very important product that we collect every single day that’s we’re open because it only has a short shelf life so that’s why the need is so great,” she said.Last year, the Red Cross collected more than 350 Platelet products and more than 100 Plasma products.
