Bangor Man Charged in Stand Off 

A Bangor man has been charged after a six hour stand-off that ended Sunday morning.According to Sgt. Paul Edwards with the Bangor Police Department, 34-year-old Shawn “Dominic” Nobrega has been charged with posession of a firearm by a felon.The stand-off began just before 6 o’clock Saturday evening. Lower Main Street in Bangor between Thatcher Street and the Old County Road in Hampden were closed during the incident. Authorities say they had to use tear gas to force Nobrega to surrender, which was shortly after midnight.Several homes and businesses in the area were evacuated for precautionary measures because they believed Nobrega has access to weapons.No injuries were reported.Nobrega was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center for an evaluation.Other charges may be pending.
