An unidentified man was taken into custody early Sunday morning after a standoff with members of the Bangor Police Special Response Team. The incident happened on Lower Main Street, which was closed around 6:00 Saturday night. The incident ended around 12:15 a.m. when Bangor Police said they had to use tear gas to force the man to surrender. The police have not released any other details about the incident. Lower Main Street is now open to traffic and people are allowed to return to their homes. No serious injuries were reported. The man in custody has been taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center for evaluation. Bangor police say the investigation is ongoing.
