State to Buy More Than 200 Miles of Track

The state has agreed to buy more than 200-miles of track in northern Maine from the Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway. It’s a 20-million dollar deal. The funding includes bond money approved by Maine voters, state reserve accounts, balances from canceled projects, and a major shipper on the line is chipping in too.On top of that, the state just received 10-and-a-half million dollars in federal funding for track improvements.Last winter the railway said it would abandon the tracks because of millions of dollars in losses.
