Rockland Will Not Restrict Cruise Ships

The city of Rockland isn’t going to restrict the number of cruise ships that can call at the Maine port. The city council had been presented with a proposal that would have limited the number of ships that could visit the city. Instead, the council voted 3-2 to strike any restraints on such visits. The cruise ships will be charged $6 per passenger. The fees will go toward public services, including police and to improve the city waterfront. Members of Rockland’s Harbor Management Commission are concerned the larger ships could overrun city parks and possibly stress local emergency services. (AP)
