Breast Cancer Survivors “Walk for Hope”

Updated 4 years ago

The 7th Annual Walk for Hope will be held in Augusta on Saturday. About 800 walkers are expected to attend. The walk is Maine General’s fundraiser to help support their breast cancer program. Last year the walk raised ninety-thousand dollars according to Maine General’s Diane Peterson. 51 year old Denise Pelletier will lead the way. She says she’s honored Maine General has asked her to take part in the walk. Pelletier was diagosed with stage four breast cancer in October 2009. Since then she has had a double mastectomy, eight months of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, yet she has never given up hope. “I can now say I’m cancer free. I consider myself a survivor, not a victim of breast cancer,” she says. “My life will never be the same, but any negativity that breast cancer brought into my life has been more than matched by the positives that have come into my life through this experience.” To help support Denise’s team click here.
