Augusta School Board Approves Single Sex Math Classes

The Augusta School Board says okay to adding single-sex math classes at the high school…Last year the number of students at Cony High who met state math standards dropped. Curriculum coordinator Tina Meserve says 27-percent of boys did not meet the standard while 46-percent of girls didn’t. Math department staff suggested offering a single gender class to help students succeed. The school board said yes to that last night.Since it’s not a requirement to report it, State education department officials aren’t sure if there are any schools in maine that have gone this route.
