Augusta School May Offer Single Sex Math Class

On Wednesday evening, Augusta school board members will discuss the idea of adding a single-sex math class to Cony High School. Last year Cony High had a drop in the number of students who met state standards in math — females in particular. Curriculum coordinator Tina Meserve says 27-percent of boys did not meet the standard while 46-percent of girls didn’t. Those statistics don’t reflect current percentages according to Meserve. However, she says adding the single sex class option is still something she says school officials are considering. There is a school board meeting planned for 7 p.m. at the Cony High Auditorium. The issue is expected to be voted on at the meeting.
