Injured Hiker Rescued from Mount Katahdin 

A hiker from Old Town had to be airlifted off Mount Katahdin.A Maine Forest Service helicopter transported Chip Loring, 61, to Millinocket’s airport. From there he was taken by ambulance to the hospital.Park officials say Loring slipped and injured his knee around noon while coming down the Saddle Trail. While he was hiking with two other people.Park Director Jensen Bissell says Loring was nearly five miles by steep trail from the most reachable road.Bissell says portions of the steep trails on Katahdin have been closed to hiking for three days because of ice and snow build-up.
