Families Matter Program Gives Back

On Tuesday, the United Way of Kennebec Valley received some assistance in its 2010 capital campaign efforts. About sixty people from the Families Matter program raised more than twenty-eight hundred dollars by participating in the bowl-a-thon at Sparetime Recreation of Augusta. The United Way of Kennebec Valley funds 51 programs, including Families Matter. The organization provides services for mentally challenged individuals who would otherwise have little or no interaction with society outside of their homes. This year’s bowl-a-thon was dedicated to Ruth Anne McNaughton. She died on October 8, 2010 at the age of 36. McNaughton was an original member of Families Matter and her friends at the program say she will be missed.
